I logged in this morning and was pleasantly surprised to see I had crossed the 400,000 point mark!
I became a member of Active Rain in late 2008 because I told my husband (with as much humility as possible), "I am a great Realtor® but I need to be found by more people" and so it began.
In late 2008 business was slowing down a bit (I AM in Cleveland Ohio where you can get 2 feet of snow overnight) so I decided to take the E-PRO course offered by NAR. I like technology but I am not an SEO wizard. I just knew it was time to learn more. Not only that, you would have to be seriously distracted not to notice what was going on with social media and how so many businesses were using it to close more deals.
The E-PRO course may be a joke for some, and understandably so if you already have good technical skills but I did not. Here are all the things I knew nothing about:
links and hyperlinks
what a blog was
how to write one
importing pics and graphics and where to find all this stuff
tags and categories
This is only a partial list and while the E-PRO course touched upon some of it, I learned the vast majority from this great platform called ACTIVE RAIN!!! I have NEVER met a more helpful and knowledgeable group of people in my life!
Did I make mistakes? you bet! But you can't learn without mistakes and so you keep trying. I am still not an SEO expert and never will be. What I have learned is this:
An old dog can still learn new tricks! I am not old but have 26 years in the business:)
You really can't break your blog. If you mess it up really badly there are tons of people here who can help you.
There are lots of agents who are wildly successful that don't do ANY of this stuff!
Setting up a website or several blogs is great but you have to keep them current and fresh. If you don't they will be of no use to you.
Don't sign up for every website that falls under the guise of "social media". You don't need them all and you will get overwhelmed, at least I did.
I have taken my business to the next level because of the leads from AR and my website and that's a fact!
I could go on and on but I am learning to manage my time:)
