Walsh Jesuit High School Cuyahoga Falls Ohio to Present "The Wizard of Oz"!

red shoeMy daughter Ein has loved this musical since she was a very little girl.

*We went through at least 5 pairs of ruby red slippers

*She knows every song by heart

*She sang "Over the Rainbow" as a first grader and won 1st place!

*She sang "Over the Rainbow" as an eighth grader (Katharine McPhee style) and was amazing!

 

Now she is a part of this wonderful production. She is an 'apple throwing tree", sings vocals on just about every song and is the understudy to Glinda. There will be fire and smoke and flying, oh my! You will not want to miss this fantastic show!

Our Weekend in Chicago With The Walsh Jesuit High School Performing Arts Groups

This weekend my husband and I traveled to Chicago to watch our daughter perform at the Heritage Music Festival with her show choir and jazz choir. It was such a treat for us as when the trip was announced in early fall we did not think we would be able to go but as luck would have it, we were able and had a wonderful time!

There were actually 4 groups that performed from our high school, Walsh Jesuit, and they were the Harmony Gold Show Choir, the jazz choir, concert choir and the madrigals. This is not so much a competition as it is a learning experience/workshop. There were 3 adjudicators and after each performance, one of the adjudicators went up on stage to work with th kids, giving them pointers on tone, diction, microphone use and placement, and expression, to name a few. For all 4 performances, our kids received silver trophies and one of our vocal soloists was awarded a gold for her solo performance with the madrigals.

On Friday night we saw an absolutely fabulous performance of Mary Poppins at the Cadillac Palace theater, preceded by a wonderdul dinner at McCormick and Schmick's. Saturday we went to the Medieval Times for the show and afterwards, the awards ceremony. It was a little different to eat our food without utensils and mostly in the dark, but we still had fun and the kids had a blast.

On Sunday we attended Mass and I mention this because the priest had a wonderful homily that I think deviated from what he was going to say when he saw teenagers taking over the first 2 pews in the church. He spoke of the importance of walking head on into your fears, but hand in hand with Christ and if we do that, we will be victorious over that fear. He also told them that they should "text" God as often as they do each other, because God is always listening, his phone is always on and He will always answer your text.

Aside from the fact that I thought I might die in a car accident in downtown Chicago, it was great trip. Driving in  downtown Chicago is not for the faint of heart and I'm glad my husband was driving. But it's an incredible city, vibrant and full of life and I am glad we were able to experience it.

Students from Walsh Jesuit High School, Cuyahoga Falls Ohio Will Compete in Heritage National Music Festival in Chicago!

musicThe Performing Fine Arts of Walsh Jesuit High School represent a group of highly talented and dedicated students and directors. I recently attended the school's Center Stage Theater's Performance of "Bye, Bye Birdie" and was blown away by the kids's preparation of their roles and their incredible talent.

Next weekend the Harmony Gold Show Choir, Vocal Jazz Choir, the Chamber Choir and The Madrigals will travel to Chicago to compete at the Heritage National Music Festival. My daughter will be among those competing, both in the show choir and the jazzmusic choir.

Bye Bye Birdie is the musical that takes a hilarious look at the early Elvis rock era of the late 50's and the teenage craze associated with it has been a favorite among theatre goers for many years.

According to David Banks, the director, "We will bring our own special creativity to this show and promise to give the audience a tremendous theatrical experience."

I have only seen a few shows at Walsh, most recently the fall production of The Matchmaker and last year's The Odd Couple and both were outstanding. These young men and women are truly inspirational in their performances and behind the scenes technical talents.
