I have read many reports that suggest that remodeled kitchens, baths, and landscaping can make a difference in selling your home. However, in today's market I think you have to proceed with caution. Investing a lot of money in your home to get it sold may not be the best idea for every seller.
I do have sellers who thought it would be a good idea to spruce up the yard because they had not been able to keep up with it. This home is in Parma Ohio where there are currently 593 single family homes for sale. I had already listed it before they decided to do the landscaping so here are the before and after pictures.
This job was done about the third week in May and about 30 days later the house was under contract!

Good morning Barb,
I do think landscaping helps. I believe first impressions are so important. Walking up to a house that is fresh and lovely, will create a positive feeling going in.
Barb- I totally agree with you in that it's hard to ask sellers to put in new countertops, and other larger projects when selling their home. It's not in everyone's budget and depending upon the pricepoint may or may not be the wisest move. But, sprucing up the curb appeal... cleaning.. decluttering can make a world of difference.
Hi Barb-absolutely no question about it! Curb appeal baby! That buying decision starts when the pull up:)
Hi Barb - I think landscaping is important! People might not state that it matters, but it makes a positive first impression! Plus many buyers don't want to do any extra work!
Landscaping can be a very inexpensive way of adding appeal to your home. Your before and after shots certainly show the benefits of a few hours spent in the yard, new mulch, trimmed shrubs and a few new plants. Congrats on your quick sale!
The first impression is very important Barb. Those that are looking at photos on the Internet will focus more on homes that look good also.
Hi Cindy, The outside of this home already looked so great with a nicely painted door and a new porch and sidewalk that the landscaping was the icing on the cake:)
Kathy, for some, even landscaping is not possible (so much financial stress) but this is a classic example of something that worked.
Marco, so right! When you walk up to the front door and see weeds, etc....you do not get a great feeling.
Hi Peggy, a lot of buyers are so excited about what they will do inside so when the outside looks great, they see it as one more thing they don't have to do.
Phil, thanks..it did work here.
Hi Al, I could not agree more:)
Most appraiser say, carpet, paint and front landscaping will pay for themselves.
Good morning stranger, good to see you. Huge difference with doing a little landscaping. What's outside invites them inside! Well done.
Barb, A little extra landscaping done in good taste certainly adds to the curb appeal. I don't know if it necessarily speeds the sale of the home, but a well presented yard at least gets the good feelings going before the prospective buyers cross the threshold!
You to Roger!!! I know I have been MIA but I have 8 closings in the the next 6 weeks to show for it and a few that came before that....I am tired:) Hope you are well!
I agree Barb, landscaping does make a big difference. It's the first thing that buyers see when they pull up. You can only make one first impression!
Hi Liz, Anything to increase the chances of an offer:)
Jared, Just like you....you made a good impression on me and now we are friends:) Of course some of your personal habits leave a lot to be desired LOL
Richard, Even though I see it over and over again, I am always amazed at the difference fresh paint can make!
Barb: Huge difference and the angle of the picture in the second shot really shows off the walkway better!
They did a very nice job, probably didn't cost them much, just manual labor and gives a good first impression.
